Oyster Production House

Spring 2023

Designed as a series of Oystercrete monoliths that push the boundaries of monumental architecture across various scales, the project investigates how these Oystercrete monoliths can redefine the concept of monumental architecture through their distinctive materiality, embracing the material’s inherent qualities, exploring its visual and tactile potential to evoke a strong sense of connection, scale, and depth. What unique experiences can arise when these monoliths are spaced further apart? How do they interlock and interact with each other?
The project establishes a harmonious relationship between the concrete monoliths and the surrounding landscape, forging an intimate bond with the environment. It enables visitors to witness the production process, bridging the gap between consumption and production spaces, and inviting them to appreciate the intrinsic connection between architecture and materiality. With the same effort, the movement of people exploring these structures involves time and scale, so the interactive connection with the membrane of the structures is established.

This natural ventilation and lighting system is a key component of the design, making the volumes both sculptural and functional, treating it as one of a series of sculptural volumes that mark the industrial aspect of the site.
